Mangaluru, May 29, 2015:

The Centre is ready with a plan for providing affordable housing to the poor in the next few years, according to Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar.

Highlighting the achievements of the Modi government in the last one year at a press conference in Mangaluru on Thursday, he said the Government introduced Jan Dhan Yojana and social security schemes for the welfare of poor.

The government is ready with a plan for providing affordable housing to around four crore poor people in rural areas and two crore in urban areas. “We will achieve this in the next six years. It will be the biggest housing programme ever launched in the world,” Javadekar claimed. Referring to the Prime Minister’s appeal to the people to relinquish LPG subsidy when they can afford to do without it, he said more than 5 lakh people have responded positively to the appeal. Now SMS are being sent those people thanking them for this gesture.

Javadekar said the Environment Ministry has come up with new rules on waste management.

“Swachch Bharat will happen only if you manage the waste properly. So my ministry has come up with rules on solid waste, e-waste, plastic waste, biomedical waste, hazardous waste and construction waste,” he said. Business Line
