Sumadhura Group receives ‘CSR Initiative of The Year 2019’ at ET Now awards

The company’s ‘Waste-to-Energy’ drive mitigated 3500 tons of carbon dioxide from 475 tons of waste

Kolkata, February 20, 2019: Sumadhura Group, one of South India’s leading realty majors has received the ‘CSR Initiative of The Year by a Real Estate Firm‘ award at the recently concluded ET Now Real Estate Awards, in Mumbai. The award recognizes Sumadhura’s eminent contribution towards changing the society in a meaningful and sustainable way. The selection process was based on several crucial factors, which included on-ground performance of the CSR project and its impact, quality, and project status.

Expressing his gratitude on this recognition, Mr Madhusudhan G, Chairman and Managing Director of Sumadhura Group said, “We are humbled and delighted to receive such a prestigious award among leaders within the industry. Since our inception, it has been our unvarying endeavour to be sensitive towards conserving our environment and being a responsible corporate citizen within the society we live in. This award not only reiterates our commitment towards giving back to the society, but also recognises our vision to achieve a ‘zero-waste’ society, through our Waste-to-Energy drive. In a country like India, battling severe garbage crisis daily, there is a dire need for many more such initiatives to make any real impact.”

Sumadhura Group has been organizing the major ‘Waste-to-Energy’ drive near Sumadhura Eden Garden, one of their 14-acre ongoing projects in Bengaluru. Through this initiative, the group aims to convert 1100 tons of waste into reusable energy, eliminating almost 8000 tons of carbon dioxide emission every year in Bengaluru. Also, the company has taken the pledge to eliminate waste entirely from their operations and committed to reduce, reuse and recycle; encouraging their staff as well as their residential communities to follow suit and be more responsible citizens. In this endeavour, Sumadhura Group has partnered with ‘GPS Renewables’, the first viable Waste-to-Energy solution for urban establishment.

Speaking on this momentous occasion, Mr Bharat Kumar, Director of Sumadhura Group said, “The award lauded Sumadhura Group’s focused commitment towards building a sustainable society. Also, the company’s CSR activities encompass the areas of providing education, improving hygiene, providing healthcare facilities, helping the aged and children, and women empowerment.”

The key social activities are primarily undertaken by Sumadhura Foundation, a charitable trust of Sumadhura Group. The foundation aims to involve, contribute and improvise the social, cultural, environmental and spiritual domain. It also intends to promote research and development in technologies that are helpful for social and ecological welfare.
