Sudhir Deoras, managing director of TRF, has been elected Chairman, and Viresh Oberoi, managing director of mjunction services, has been elected deputy chairman of CII Eastern Region.
Mr Deoras’ name was announced at the first meeting of the reconstituted Eastern Regional Council held in Kolkata on March 30. Mr Deoras began his career with the Tata group after graduating in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Tata Steel in 1973 as a graduate trainee and soon completed a post graduate diploma in Electrical and Metallurgy from Shavak Nanavati Technical Institute (earlier Jamshedpur Technical Institute). Mr Deoras was appointed senior executive vice president of Tata International in 1998 and was appointed its managing director in 1999. He took over as joint managing director of Tata Sponge Iron in 2006. In April 2007, he was appointed managing director of TRF.
Mr Deoras has had a long association with CII. He was the chairman of the HR and IR subcommittee of CII Eastern Region. He was also the co-chairman of the CII National Committee on Export.
Mr Oberoi is the founder CEO and managing director of mjunction services and has led the company since 2001. Under his leadership, mjunction has evolved from a fledgling start-up in 2001 to India’s largest e-commerce company and the world’s largest e-marketplace for steel. mjunction has today eTransacted goods and services worth over Rs1,25,000 crore through its various business verticals. Despite his strong business focus, Mr Oberoi has always believed in a higher calling. He has always stressed that mjunction is a for-profit and yet a social organisation. Mr Oberoi has also been chairman of the CII West Bengal State Council during 2012–13 and an active member of CII Eastern Regional Council since 2006.
