Noida, October 08, 2016: In a move to sensitize future leaders of the real estate industry, RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University hosted the World Green Building Week 2016, echoing the worldwide flagship campaign organized by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).
The theme for 2016 was ‘Change Your Perspective’, an evolution of Better Build Green. The event was organized in collaboration with the student chapter of Indian Green Building Council.
The World Green Building Week at RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University had an array of activities and events aimed at strengthening awareness on sustainable built environment. The week-long event held between 26th September and 2nd October saw industry veterans visiting the School and there was a good mix of guest lectures, competitions and workshops for students
RICS SBE is supportive of conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices and has been organizing World Green Building annually to strengthen awareness of sustainable lifestyles in the community and to create sustainable built environments.
Dr. PC Jain Chairman AECOM & Indian Green Building Councilwho was the guest of honor at the event said, “In India we have heritage structures that have survived for thousands of years. I would say they are all green buildings. We can take inspiration from our heritage structures instead of aping the west.”
The activities spread over five days highlighted the fact that every individual act of environmental conservation matters and can make a positive difference to the world.Activities organized included a flash mob, street plays, guitar sessions and contests such as 60-seconds to fame, 3D-design competition, business planning/zero to infinity challenge, debate, face painting, T-shirt painting, infographics, photography and Twitter competitions.
Prof. KT Ravindran, FRICS, Dean Emeritus, RICS SBE, said, “Buildings in the built environment contribute negatively to climate change. We must understand that it’s through our hands pollution is passing on to the future generations. We need to take measures to make sure that the future is actually green in its essence.”
