New Delhi, October 28, 2016: RICS, a global professional body for chartered qualification and standards in the built environment sector today announced MRICS (Member of RICS) chartered qualification for a select set of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) executives. The announcement follows the successful completion of a specially crafted one-year long training and development program by 15 L&T executives from across the country. In June, 2015, RICS had signed a three-year agreement with engineering & construction giant Larsen & Toubro to deliver one-year executive education program for its quantity surveying professionals.

An MRICS chartered qualification signifies that the professional works to the highest industry standards. This chartered qualification is given to the built environment sector professionals based on their educational background, professional work experience and demonstrated acumen in pre-determined set of globally benchmarked competencies.

“The fact that 15 executives received MRICS chartered qualification shows the strength of our training program and an effective partnership with L&T,” said Sachin Sandhir, Global Managing Director, Emerging Business, RICS.“We are happy that the country’s largest construction conglomerate L&T is investing in building a competent workforce by partnering with RICS for converting some of its staff into Chartered Quantity Surveyors – recognized worldwide as the highest level of professional competence,” Sandhir said.

Construction professionals from L&T with a minimum of five years of work experience, with an engineering degree are eligible for the executive education program. The program is meant to deliver the necessary knowledge and competencies required by RICS chartered quantity surveying professionals. The delivery partners for this program are L&T IPM (L&T institute for Project management) and RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University (delivery partner for RICS).

The first batch of 15 executives have received their chartered qualification putting them in a select group of global chartered quantity surveyors.

Dr. Anil Sawhney FRICS, Associate Dean, School of Construction at RICS SBE, who designed the program alongside colleagues from L&T said, “The MRICS chartered qualification will elevate the practicing Quantity Surveyors at L&T to the highest levels of competence, thereby giving L&T a commercial advantage in the long run with better managed projects. It is a wonderful milestone for the RICS School of Built Environment to be center stage in this initiative.”

Dr BhimarayaMetri Dean-L&T IPM said,“Quantity surveying (QS) is a strongly emerging profession and RICS is well established in the QS domain. The partnership with RICS for the purpose of getting our engineers an MRICS chartered qualification was a good move to progress forward in a structured manner. The pathway to MRICS is a great advantage that our valued employees will receive and this was one of the major USPs of the program. We have already confirmed the repetition of this program for next batch of eligible employees”
