Specialisation courses being planned to keep up with modern industry requirements

New Delhi, September 04, 2018: IIM-Bangalore is keen to update its two-year management programme curriculum in tune with modern industry requirements according to the reports published in thehindubusinessline.com.

Towards this end, it plans to launch specialisation courses around analytics and real estate in two-three years.

“We are working on coming up with specialisation courses on analytics and real estate in our two-year programme. The reason is we think these are growing areas. Also, IIM-Bangalore has done enough research in the field of analytics,” said G Raghuram, Director, IIM-B.

Diversity measures

Talking about bringing diversity in the batch, he said that in terms of background, “we seemed to be highly skewed towards engineers”.

This could be because a higher number of engineers take the CAT exam, he said, adding: “However, we are thinking of certain measures through which we can fix the (diversity) issue.”

According to the reports published in thehindubusinessline.com by Garima Singh as on date, the number of start-ups founded by women in India is way lesser than men, said Raghuram.

“There is a need to make some interventions. IIM-Bangalore launched the ‘Women Start-up Programme’ in November 2016. Through this programme we are explicitly seeking women entrepreneurs who are not necessarily from our two-year programme,” he added.

IIM-Visakhapatnam and IIM-Indore are among the partner institutes for the programme this year.

Focus on research

On the importance of research for IIM-B, Raghuram said it is very important as faculty promotions depend on it.

There is no shortage of faculty, but the institute would want to increase their numbers so as to enhance research work, he said.
