Leading contemporary artist Subodh Gupta’s masterpiece adds a unique touch to the grandeur of the project

Gurgaon, May 14, 2015: Residents of Ireo Grand Arch township, in Sector 58, Gurgaon, got a real taste of fine living as the spectacular ‘Dada’ tree sculpture, by renowned artist Subodh Gupta, was unveiled in the presence of residents and the artist himself, in the central lawns of the condominium. The internationally acclaimed artist, who is known for creating transformative sculptures using everyday objects, witnessed the unveiling, a first of its kind for a residential complex in NCR. The nearly 22 ft. high installation, which stands in the central lawns beneath the Arch tower, complements the eye-catching “arch-shaped” architecture of The Grand Arch, and creates an immersive experience for residents who are now beginning to move in to these stylish new homes within the 21-acre Grand Arch project.

The sculpture, which resembles a banyan tree, is made of polished, hyper-reflective stainless steel, with curvy branches and has clusters of utensils as leaves. According to artist Subodh Gupta, “ The tree is its title ‘Dada’, the Hindi word for grandfather, the patriarch under whose protection a family thrives and in whom one sees one’s own reflection .” The artwork makes creative use of objects that were part of the artist’s childhood in the small town of Khagaul in Bihar, including steel tiffin boxes, thali pans, bicycles, and milk pails. “ When families and people come here and take photos on their phones under the tree, it gives me a real sense of pleasure,” added Gupta.

Part of the larger 700-acre Ireo City township straddling Sectors 58,59,60 and 61 along Golf Course Extension Road, this installation within the Grand Arch is one step within a larger theme of creating an artistically and aesthetically appealing ambience across the entire township. Ireo has plans for more such exclusive artworks being installed at key junctions and highlight points throughout the larger Ireo City township currently under development. Lalit Goyal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director at Ireo, who is himself an avid art collector, commented that, “Bringing soulful and inspiring art to the residents of Ireo communities is an integral part of our vision to create a holistic lifestyle in Ireo townships. Our commitment to build aesthetically designed living spaces is not restricted to homes; it pervades the entire township ecosystem. In the past, Ireo has developed and supported many community initiatives to promote the performing arts , such as the annual Ireo Ludhiana Art Beat Festival now in it’s 2nd consecutive year , and also the recently held Ireo-HT Gurgaon Center Stage Theatre Festival in Gurgaon. Installation of ‘Dada’ by Subodh Gupta isa continuation of the same thought process, and is just the first of several choice art works that will be displayed across Ireo City for our resident communities to enjoy and appreciate. In that sense , the ‘Dada Tree’ installation at The Grand Arch is only a taste of things to come.
