Mumbai, August 26, 2018: Sustainability is deeply embedded in ACC’s business model focusing on the four pillars of Climate, Circular Economy, Water & Nature, and People & Communities. ACC which began its sustainability communication as early as 2007, recently released its 11th Sustainable Development (SD) Report themed ‘Shaping a Sustainable Future’ which is available on its website www.acclimited.com.  Prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards: Comprehensive option, it also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. ACC is one of only seven companies in the global construction material sector to release its Sustainable Development Report 2017 in accordance with the GRI standards*

Commenting on the report, Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director & CEO, ACC Limited said, “At ACC, sustainability is about being ready for tomorrow. Climate change, fuel and energy constraints, water and resource scarcity are all going to have an impact on our business. This is why we are taking positive action now.”

The report shows true progress against the company’s targets.  ACC has reduced its specific water consumption for manufacturing cement by an impressive 32% since 2012. It’s Corporate Social Responsibility expenditure was higher than the mandatory 2% of average profit of the last three years – spending  ₹21.82 crore to benefit over 4.82 lakh people.

ACC is India’s first cement company to win the GreenPro certification awarded by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for all its products – ACC Suraksha Power, ACC Concrete+ Xtra Strong, ACC HPC Long Life, ACC Gold Water Shield and ACC F2R Superfast – across all 17 plants.

ACC is also the first Indian cement company to publish an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for all its blended cement products manufactured across all its plants. EPD is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products, certified by the Indian regional hub of “The International EPD® System”.

The quality of ACC’s sustainability communication reporting has steadily improved year on year with greater disclosure and the availability of better data. The report is divided into several chapters focusing on our organisation and strategy and then moving on to the Economic, Environmental, Societal and other aspects of sustainability.

In addition to conforming to the GRI standards, the company rendered the report more meaningful by updating its understanding of stakeholder concerns and perceptions, and revisiting its materiality matrix, the results of which are published in the SD Report.
