Yohan & Michelle Poonawalla Support the Revamp of Cowasjee Jehangir Colony with a State-of-the-Art Multipurpose Sports Complex

Mumbai, July 02, 2025: Demonstrating their deep-rooted commitment to the upliftment and civic transformation, philanthropists and industrialists Yohan and Michelle Poonawalla have extended their generous support towards the creation of a world-class floodlit, multipurpose sports complex at the Cowasjee Jehangir Colony (CJ Club), Mumbai. The newly inaugurated sports facility, featuring courts for tennis, pickleball, volleyball, throwball, basketball, and sepak takraw, is a vital addition to CJ Club’s growing legacy.

The initiative aligned with CJ Club’s 25th Silver Jubilee year, the new facility was unveiled by the Managing Committee Members and Club Members. This new facility was built in collaboration with dedicated teams, cementing the importance of teamwork and social engagement across generations. Designed to promote wellness, inclusion, and youth development, the complex is fully equipped with professional-grade sports kits, surface finishing, synthetic flooring, lighting systems, and civil infrastructure, setting a new benchmark for sports spaces in the city.

Commenting on the initiative, Yohan Poonawalla, Chairman of the Poonawalla Group and a prominent force in India’s industrial landscape, said, “For us, giving back to society isn’t just a responsibility, it’s a way of life. This sports facility is our tribute to the spirit of youth and to nurture the growing athletic potential in the city.”

Michelle Poonawalla, Director, Poonawalla Group, artist, and a leading figure behind the family’s charitable endeavours, added: “We are deeply committed to supporting projects that drive impact at the grassroots. Access to quality recreational spaces is essential, not just for physical fitness, but for overall well-being. This sports complex is a space of joy, inclusion, and aspiration, and we’re honoured to be a part of its journey.”

The new endeavour adds to the Poonawallas’ growing legacy of philanthropy. From the acclaimed restoration of Pune’s iconic Turf Club to the recent establishment of a cutting-edge Neurological and Trauma Care Unit at Ruby Hall Clinic, their initiatives span across healthcare, education, heritage preservation, and public welfare and many more, consistently reflecting their vision of building a better and a more equitable society.
