Ten ways to spruce up your home before the arrival of Dussehra

New Delhi, October 21, 2015: Wouldn’t you want to welcome the Dussehra with spruced up house. It’s time to deal with the cobwebs, smudgy glass, grimy windows and fans and other stuff that you have been ignoring for a whole year. Well, no point in procrastinating any longer. Dussehra is just round the corner so get your broom and start off with some tips that will help you tidy up your home in a jiffy.

1. Get all your equipment together. You will need a stool to stand on, dry microfiber cloth (to clear cobwebs), wet cloth to wipe away grime and dust, a cleaning and foaming solution for laminates, porcelain, ceramic light and metal fixtures, and upholstery, a toothbrush to scrub and a small brush that can go into tiny niches in your furniture and fittings, a big broom and newspapers.

2. Start from the top. Begin with dusting the cobwebs off first so they don’t land on already clean furniture. Then wipe the light fittings and photo frames with a damp microfiber cloth and a glass cleaning solution, preferably one that doesn’t run or streak yet cuts grease and grime like. There are also now excellent solutions like Cyclo Max Clean to wipe off wall stains off without peeling the paint. Make sure that the brand you use doesn’t scratch surfaces and restores shine.

3. Move to the furniture and electronics. Use a small dry brush to clear the dust out of the plug holes and niches. Move your appliances to wipe the wires and sockets clear. Spray a cleaning solution to get your electronics shining again.

4. Try scrubbing your upholstery with a slightly damp scrub (the one you use for your utensils), it will clear away the hair, loose fibers and cobwebs from your sofas and curtains.

5. Move the furniture and big electronics to clear the dust and cobwebs stuck to the back of the objects. First loosen with a broom and then wipe with a cloth.

6. Clear out your refrigerator. Empty and dismantle the racks. Wash them with warm water and dry. Wipe the inside walls. Last, wipe the doors and handles with a surface cleaner to get rid of sticky stains around the handles. You can also use Motomax Protectant Spray for the plastic furniture.

7. Scrub the tiles and walls of the bathroom with a solution. Use a toothbrush to scrub at stubborn yellow stains and wall corners. A little vinegar in the WC will quickly tackle the yellow stains there.

8. Get to your windows. Newspapers are more helpful in cleaning glass than cloth is. Use a spraying solution like Cyclo Glass Clean and wipe. Then wipe again with a dry cloth. Clean your window grills with a wet cloth and soapy solution to get rid of the grime.

9. Sweep the cobwebs and wipe the floor clean. Replace the upholstery and linen after all the cleaning is done.

10. Put some flowers in an ornate colourful bowl, light a fragrant diya and soak in the clean crisp mood of your almost new home. You are now ready for Dussehra.
