Three more DLF buildings get prestigious LEED Gold certificate

DLF’s green building portfolio increased to 16.62 million square feet

Green Certificates save operational costs of tenants, rentals command premium

New Delhi, May 27, 2015: India’s leading real estate company, DLF has received “LEED GOLD” certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for three more buildings; two IT park towers in Kolkata and one in Hyderabad. With this, DLF has covered 17 buildings across the country certified with coveted LEED Gold, totaling 166.17 lakh (16.617 million) square feet. The company is also targeting all its buildings under its rental portfolio to be covered under LEED certification.

Mr Rajeev Talwar, Whole Time Director, DLF Ltd. said “Most of our office buildings are now certified green LEED Gold buildings. DLF has always been a pioneer in setting new benchmarks and we are rightfully proud of our teams which have made such certifications possible. It helps our MNC tenants in deciding their preference for DLF buildings, being assured of the quality of our buildings,”.

The certification attracts tenants, who pay a premium for environment friendly buildings. According to USGBS, lease-up rates for green buildings typically range to 20% above average.

Mr. Gautam Dey, Senior Vice President, Building Services, DLF Ltd. said “DLF’s experience shows that the company has been able to bring down its energy consumption by approximately 15% by using various monitoring and controlling systems under LEED practices. Another 5.5 million sq. ft of office space will be added in this financial year as we are preparing our Chennai IT park for this certificate”.

“In India, LEED certified buildings make eminent sense because of high pollution and toxin levels, pressure on fragile ecosystem and the need to usher in more energy efficient construction methods. DLF, which is India’s premier real estate company, has taken the lead in adopting LEED standards to make its buildings environment friendly,” Mr. Dey added.

LEED certification provides independent verification of a building, allowing for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy, cost-effective buildings. LEED Certificates benefit people, planet and profit. Over 85 Fortune 100 companies are already using LEED. CCI Newswire
