Indore, Feb 21, 2015 – To streamline traffic on Jawahar Marg and Sapna Sangeeta, a mobility plan is under consideration, according to which Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and traffic police will identify parking spots. In a meeting between officials of Atal Indore City Transport Service Ltd (AICTSL), IMC, IDA, district administration and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a plan catering to city’s future needs was prepared.AICTSL CEO Sandeep Soni said the plan was earlier implemented on a section of Jawahar Marg on a pilot basis. Now, it will be implemented all along the square.
In July 2014, AICTSL had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with WBCSD for preparing a mobility plan to address mobility-related challenges of Indore and develop a set of multimodal solutions that will extend access to safe, reliable and comfortable mobility for all, whilst aiming for affordability, zero traffic accidents, low environmental impact, and reduced demand on energy and time. After identifying seven priority areas, including road safety, congestion and delays, travel time, intermodal connectivity, quality of public areas, access to mobility service and access for deficiency groups for mobility plan for Indore, WBCSD on Wednesday came up with a suggestion for paid parking and construction of smart parking places.
“Parking has emerged a major challenge for traffic in city and now stress will be on development of parking places and make parking payable to discourage use of personal vehicles,” said WBCSD officials.”To cater to needs of city in long run we need to have efficient, reliable, safe and affordable public transport system in Indore, along with inter-multimodal transport system, to improve mobility,” said Soni.
