Saint-Gobain India awards Prizes to budding Architects

  • Awards were given away during the Grand Finale of Transparence – India’s biggest competition for Architecture students anchored by Saint-Gobain
  • Mr. B Santhanam, President – Flat Glass South Asia, Egypt and Malaysia, Saint-Gobain and MD Saint-Gobain India (P) Ltd, along with Transparence jury members gave away prizes worth INR 1,50,000/- for Winners of Transparence
  • Eminent Architects – Carson Shearon, Prof. (Dr.) R. Chandrashekhar, Atul Shah and Aparna Narasimhan adjudicated the entries.
  • Saint-Gobain Scholarships worth INR 5,00,000 – were granted to 5 students
  • The contest witnessed 299 entries from more than 68 elite architectural institutions across the country taking part in the Biggest Architecture and Design Competition for students in India
  • The Grand Finale of the Transparence 2018 featured Carson Shearon’s Keynote address 

New Delhi, March 14 2018: Saint-Gobain, world leader in habitat solutions, in association with Ethos conducted the Grand Finale of the Twelfth edition of Transparence in New Delhi. Transparence, India’s largest competition for students of Architecture and Design, is Saint-Gobain’s annual forum to showcase student talent from the Colleges of Architecture and Design in India and gives them an opportunity to get mentored by the who’s who of Indian and global architecture.

Into its twelfth edition, Transparence 2018 received over 299 team entries for showcasing design ideas under the theme HEALING SPACES – A Mother and Child Welfare Centre. The theme was curated by Ar. Vivek Rathore. These entries were scrutinized by elite panel of practicing architects from across the North, West, East and South zones of the country during the regional rounds. 8 National finalist teams from the Regional rounds battled it out for the coveted National Awards in front of a jury of eminent architects and a host of architecture students and practicing architects across the country. Mr. B Santhanam, President and MD, Flat Glass – South Asia, Egypt and Malaysia Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd. along with the jury awarded the National Winners.

The eminent jury for the Grand Finale comprised of:

Ar. Carson Shearon, LEED AP, ADAC: CANNON DESIGN

Ar. (Prof.) (Dr.) R. Chandrashekhar, Consultant, World Bank

Ar. Atul Shah, Access Architects Architect – Principal Venkataramanan Associates (VA)

Ar. Aparna Narasimhan, Principal, Venkataramanan Associates (VA)

Chintal Sharma of Navrachna University, Baroda bagged the ultimate glory and emerged to be the national winner of this year’s competition and were awarded a citation, trophy and Rs. 75,000. She was followed by Adarsh Kumar Agarwal of Gateway College, Sonepat who stood National Runner up – I and took home a citation, trophy and prize money of Rs. 50,000. Sufi Abdul Hakeem, Marri Shravan and Aravind A of NIT Calicut were the National Runner up – II and won the prize money of Rs. 25,000.

As a part of this year’s event, Saint-Gobain Scholarships worth INR 1,00,000 each to 5 recipients for their disruptive ideas.

Commenting on the design contest, B. Santhanam, President and MD, Flat Glass – South Asia, Malaysia & Egypt, Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Transparence 2018 also hosted Archumen Champions of Champions: India’s Largest Quiz Competition for Practicing Architects, which was well received by firms and architects across India.
