Over 18000 Wood Craftsmen Celebrate Yoga Day

Mumbai, June 23, 2016: Over eighteen thousand wood craftsmen, members of Fevicol Champions’ Club (FCC), turned out to mark the second International Yoga Day today, taking part in yoga camps organized by the club all over India. Fevicol Champions Club is a non-profit organization set up by Pidilite and serves as a platform for the carpenters and their families to learn and enhance personal and professional skills to further their economic and social welfare.

A total of 600 clubs participated in the camps organized by the FCC across 22 cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mysore, Pondicherry, Thane, Chandigarh and Raipur amongst others. Mumbai witnessed around 2000 member’s participation in the yoga camp across multiple locations in the city

Carpenters and woodworkers put in long days of work and are exposed to large amounts of sawdust, increasing the risk of pulmonary diseases. Dr.Alpa Dalal, MBBS, M.D (Chest) ,a leading pulmonary physician said, “Difficult working conditions and constant exposure to dust particles make carpenters vulnerable to contracting chronic pulmonary diseases like asthma and chronic bronchitis. This further leads to physical symptoms like breathlessness and fatigue and also mental irritation, anger, anxiety and depression which has a direct impact on their concentration and performance. Practicing yoga regularly will not only help craftsmen improve their physical fitness but also help them to improve mental health and concentration”

FCC ensured that its members were made aware of the benefits of yoga and practicing it regularly. It aims to encourage its members to take up yoga by handing them a ‘Swasthya Member, Swasthya FCC’ card that not only highlights the benefits of the most common types of yoga exercises but also provides a yoga planner to help members plan and evaluate their progress over the coming year.

Additionally, medical camps were also set up at all the venues to check members’ blood sugar, blood pressure and weight. The FCC has grown rapidly over the past year and now has over 100000 members across the country.

Mr Salil Dalal, President – Sales & Marketing, Fevicol, Pidilite Industries Ltd., said, “FCC takes extra effort to reach out to the craftsmen to ensure overall wellness of its members. The FCC yoga day is one of the ways in which we encourage our members to adopt a healthier lifestyle. We empathize with our craftsmen who work in difficult working conditions and acknowledge the toll it takes on their health. The bond between the FCC and its members is held with strong values and character and we wish good health to all the FCC members and the society.”
