Modon Properties appoints contractor to build five temporary mosques in Riyadh City

  • Abdulla Al Sahi: The plans for the mosques have been developed based on a thorough study conducted by Modon Properties and the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities.

Abu Dhabi, March 08, 2018: Modon Properties, an Abu Dhabi master developer building vibrant and sustainable communities and strategic mixed-use developments, today announced that works have started on the construction of five temporary mosques across the northern part of Riyadh City. A contracting company has been appointed to develop the mosques in sectors 7, 12, 14, 23 and 25.

Abdulla Al Sahi, Chief Executive Officer of Modon Properties noted that with the holy month of Ramadan approaching, Modon Properties has prioritised the development of temporary mosques based on requests received from residents in the area. The five temporary mosques, the first in the City, will be evenly distributed across the development and will have the capacity to welcome over 1,600 worshippers. Three of the mosques will have a surface area of 250 square meters while the other two will each cover 450 square meters. The different mosques will accommodate between 200 and 475 worshippers.

Al Sahi clarified that the plans for these mosques have been developed based on a thorough study conducted by Modon Properties and the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities in the norther part of Riyadh City (formerly known as Al Shamkha). The mosques will be built based on international standards and will be movable to other plots, once the permanent mosques have been built.

Al Sahi added: “We promise to deliver state-of-the-art infrastructure in the coming years to the residents of Riyadh City. We are committed to making Riyadh City a thriving community where people can enjoy quality alongside a comfortable and stable lifestyle with all the facilities they need, including places of worship. We are very pleased that the [General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments] and the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities have agreed to help us open five mosques in such a short time.”

Riyadh City covers almost 8,000 hectares of land, which is equivalent to 85% of the land area of Abu Dhabi island. Once completed, it will increase available residential plots in Abu Dhabi by 45% and will be the largest residential community development in the Emirate housing 200,000 Emiratis. It will have nearly 26,500 residential plots and 156 commercial plots, and include 62 educational facilities, 21 health centres, 300 recreational facilities and parks, as well as 121 mosques.
