Mantri S.E.V.A and SMILE Foundation empower 100 urban youth in Bengaluru

Aims to enable employment through skill development for 100 youth in Bengaluru’s Kanakapura region

Bengaluru, December 24, 2015: Mantri S.E.V.A (Supporting and Encouraging Voluntary Action ),has joined hands with Smile Foundation to support the livelihood of 100 marginalized youths in Bengaluru’s Kanakpura area. The announcement was made at the commencement of the program at Raza Foundation in Kanakpura. Through this latest initiative, Mantri S.E.V.A looks at strengthening its efforts in ensuring a sustainable impact on the community by creating more job opportunities through training and enhancement of various interpersonal and technical skills of the youth.

This initiative will support a new Smile Twin e Learning Program (STeP) that aims at creating a pool of young and independent people from marginalized sections, through skill upgradation in tandem with market requirements. With the new center, youth in the surrounding slums of Kanakpura will highly benefit through skill enhancement and they will secure employment across retail, hospitality and BPO sectors.

STeP is an effort towards bridging the gap between demand and supply of skilled manpower. This national level program trains urban underprivileged youth in computer skills, spoken English, personality development, soft skills and retail management for improving their prospects of employment. Upon completion of the program every student will undergo a certification test to be eligible for employment opportunities. They will also be exposed to employee engagement exercises with employer representatives to understand corporate culture. After the successful accomplishment of training, Smile Foundation will also provide placement assistance for STeP students.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Priyanka Mantri, Head –Mantri S.E.V.A, said “Despite a large population, India currently faces a severe shortage of well-trained, skilled workers. Reports indicate that there is an imminent surplus manpower of 4-5 crore with inadequate skills in India. The Mantri S.E.V.A partnership with Smile Foundation is based on an issue of utmost importance to the country – skill development, and is our contribution to the society. We believe that empowering women and youth with sustainable skills will increase their employability. Being closely involved in the project right from its conceptualization to its execution, I am extremely passionate about this project and am confident that our efforts will help build a better tomorrow. We are hopeful that through this project we will be able to create a pool of skilled youth & empower them to become financially stable.”

Speaking on this association, Mr. Vikram Singh Verma, COO, Smile Foundation commented, “ India is home to one of the largest youth population in the world, a greater portion of which is unemployed. Equipped with proper training and guidance, they have the potential to contribute productively to the economy of the country. We are thankful to Mantri Developers for their support towards this initiative and for sharing our vision for a better, skilled India . “
