GROHE nominated for 2014 German Sustainability Award

Leading sanitary manufacturer acknowledged for its commitment to resource efficiency

New Delhi, September 24, 2014 – GROHE believes that sustainability means exercising responsibility for the environment and for humanity. This is why the company’s guidelines for sustainable action are deeply embedded in its structures and processes. From water and energy saving products to sustainable production and corporate social responsibility, GROHE takes its role as a market leader seriously and acts as a role model for the entire industry. The company’s unerring focus on sustainability is very much consistent with the goals of the German Sustainability Award and its mission to promote sustainable excellence. Now a jury of experts has nominated GROHE for the “Resource Efficiency” 2014 special award, putting the company on the top 3 shortlist for this category.

To help resolve the ecological challenges facing humanity, GROHE pursues a variety of activities derived from its early recognition of the importance of resource efficiency. Apart from having a professional resource management system at all production sites, the company has spent the past decades developing products which are particularly water and energy saving during their long service lives. Highlights in its range include the GROHE EcoJoy® product lines, which are designed for up to 50% lower water consumption. Another reason for the nomination cited by the expert judges is the GROHE Blue® water system, which supplies three varieties of chilled and filtered table water straight from the tap – with a carbon footprint significantly below that of bottled mineral water. This way GROHE empowers consumers to mitigate their impact on the environment and on natural resources in a sustainable manner.

“Our company is committed to promoting pure water enjoyment,” says Michael Rauterkus, Chief Sales Officer at Grohe AG. “For us this also means that we bear a great responsibility for this unique natural resource. When taking decisions, we are very much aware of the sustainability implications and this awareness of sustainability is shared by all our employees. Being nominated for the “Resource Efficiency” special award is an invaluable confirmation of our efforts and our products. At the same time, this nomination will inspire us to live up to the high expectations associated with such an accolade also in the future.”

More than 800 entries were received for this year’s German Sustainability Award. Headed by Prof. Dr. Günther Bachmann, general secretary of the German Council for Sustainable Development, the judges selected this year’s nominees based on their sustainability profiles and their sustainability performance along their value chains. This selection resulted in the nomination of 14 companies and nine communities for their outstanding achievements in tackling the ecological and social challenges of the future. The German Sustainability Award is an initiative of the Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V. in conjunction with the federal government, the umbrella organisations of municipal and local authorities, confederations of business and industry, civil society organisations and research institutions. The seventh annual awards will be presented in Düsseldorf on November 28. CCI Newswire
