Godrej Construction leads the way for implementing a circular economy in construction materials

Mumbai, November 12, 2021: Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, announced that its business Godrej Construction, a pioneer in adopting sustainable construction practices in India, is committed to minimize the impact of construction on the environment. To demonstrate the same, the business has recycled over 25,000 metric tonnes of concrete debris by implementing circular economy principles in their construction materials line of business, while theirReady-Mix Concrete (RMC) plant,Recycled Concrete Materials (RCM) plant and common areas of Godrej IT Park building in Mumbai are now powered by 100% renewable energy. Godrej Construction is one of the first in the RMC industry to switch to green energy.

Commenting on the business’ commitments, Abhijeet Gawde, Head of Business Development & Marketing,Godrej Construction said, “Being committed to sustainable development and a circular economy, we recycle concrete debris to make various recycled concrete materials which are in fact just as good as any other concrete product made using virgin aggregates in terms of its quality and durability parameters. The recycled concrete, which uses Construction & Demolition (C&D) concrete waste is also used for making Customized Prefabricated Concrete Products such as Box Culverts and Ducts which are being used in some of the major infrastructure projects in Mumbai. We hope that many others in the industrywill follow in the endeavour to encourage a circular economy by using recycled products, which is clearly the need of the hour.”

Godrej & Boyce has pioneered the Green Building movement in India along with CII. Their new building construction projects are designed and developed as per Green Building Principles. Godrej Construction has received several awards and accolades for its real estate projects, including the recognition received recently for its Godrej Platinum Tower B4 project as ‘Most Environment Friendly Residential Space’ at the 13thRealty+ Excellence Award 2021 (West). Over 300 million square feet of Green Building footprint have been facilitated by Godrej & Boyce.

Over the years, the brand has taken several specific steps towards sustainable development, three of their RMC plants have recently been commended with the GreenPro certification from the Indian Green Building Council. Godrej Construction is the first in India to obtain this noteworthy certification for its RMC plants. Their products such as TUFF Recycled Concrete Blocks and AAC Blocks have also been Green Pro certified by the Indian Green Building Council.
