Bengaluru, March 21, 2018: At the recently concluded World Urban Forum (WUF) 9, a non-legislative technical forum convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), at Kuala Lumpur recently, Mr. Farook Mahmood, President, FIABCI met with several world leaders in the field of realty and infrastructure development to discuss various PPPP: Public-Private-Partnerships-People possibilities under the City Prosperity Initiatives (CPI) a partnership between FIABCI AND UN, for a number of international cities, including India.
Speaking on these discussions, Mr. Farook Mahmood, President, FIABCI and Chairman and Managing Director, Silverline Realty, says “FIABCI International has offered to take the lead in the CPI. Cyberjaya in Malaysia, around 20km from Kuala Lumpur has agreed to be a part of these international surveys that will help in infrastructural build-up. Cities such as New York, Dubai, Barcelona, Mexico and Manila have all expressed similar interests”.
Mr. Farook met with The Minister of Housing Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Additional Secretary of Housing Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Mishra and Chairman & Managing Director of Hudco Mr. Ravi Kant at the WUF9 Kuala Lumpur discussing the possibilities of implementing the CPI in India. Among the other dignitaries that Mr. Farook interacted were The Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Najib Razak and Executive Director of UN-Habitat Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif and other dignitaries.
The event also introduced the FIABCI City Prosperity Initiative – Perceptions Index (CPI-PI), an online tool to capture people’s perceptions on the progress of their city in becoming more inclusive, secure, resilient and sustainable. The CPI-PI uses six dimension of prosperity and sustainability: productivity, infrastructure development, quality of life, equity and social inclusion, environmental sustainability and urban governance. If offers recent and reliable opinions from the public and experts on their vision, thoughts and feelings on the sustainability, well-being, integrated development and prosperity of their city.
This program includes results from pilot applications in Taichung City, Taiwan and Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The program will also present The City We Need is Affordable Vol II, a book outlining successful large-scale affordable housing development projects from every region in the world.
