Rajat Singhi, Founder & Creative Director revisits the journey of the brand, where it started with converting a car mechanic’s shed into a hi-end retail store at Raghuvanshi Mills, Mumbai. From the look and feel of the store, to lay outing and visual merchandising, every little detail was seen by him in person. He reminisces by saying, “It was an amazing success. I remember my first few months when I was there personally, I used to attend to each and every customer and listen to their feedback. It was very enriching to hear them gasp in awe and delight that finally something like this had come to Mumbai or to India for that matter.”
Singhi believes the brand has come a long way and they have a long way to go as well. He shares the credit of the success of the brand with his team. About the team he adds, “The way people make house into a home, similarly it is the team that makes a brand. Our team has been extremely efficient and supportive, some of the first founding members of address Home are still with us and I think that’s a phenomenal trait. It speaks volumes about the brand as well as the team that we have. Along with that we keep refreshing our ideas and we would keep offering transformative decor to everybody.”
The vision behind the brand was to bring a global edge in decorating style to house-proud client in India. Pioneers in luxury retail home decor, before Address Home, there was a lack of hi-end decor stores with contemporary International designs. This gave the insight to Rajat Singhi to start a label that would bring a world-class decorative range so that people in India would no longer have to travel abroad just to bring home products with a distinct global style. Also, he had been in an export furnishings business for many years, designing and manufacturing for some of the best names in the world, and as a design-led team, he wanted to create an identity for their work. To have recognition for the brand and all the painstakingly designed creations by the team, and make them available to the discerning Indian consumers.
The brand is looking at explosive growth in the coming years. They are diversifying into another brand, associated with Address Home offering a slightly differentiated point of view in terms of design as well price. There will be a lot of exciting things coming up in the next year or two. They are entering into some new categories under the Address umbrella. They plan to open 20 outlets by the next fiscal year.
