New Delhi, July 10, 2020: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Natcon 2020: Transcend is all set to take place on the 11th and 12th of July 2020.  Unlike any of its predecessors in light of the current Pandemic, the IIA is hosting this as an online event using a multifaceted platform. While The National Convention will follow the theme on Transcend which will focus on Self-Reliance and Resilience in Architecture with an inclusive approach to address the Equitable built environment for all sections of the society and the lessons from the Pandemic and the way forward.

The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) is the national body of architects, with more than 25,000 active members. It plays a major role in promoting the profession of architects by organizing and uniting the architects of India to promote aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of the profession both in Practice and Education. This year the sessions are constituted to surpass the boundaries of social inequality, inadequate habitat for the needy. The Natcon will feature expert talks by internationally renowned Architects and panel discussion on the range of topics that are related to the profession of the society.

The first day’s program will have the Inaugural ceremony followed by Two Sessions, while the second and final day’s program will also have two sessions followed by Valedictory Ceremony and Entertainment Programs. The program will have address’s by celebrated architects from India and abroad. Each of these sessions will be held in virtual halls featuring various topics such as Transcend, Resilience, Innovation, Self Reliance, Inclusive and Valedictory.  Around 3000 architects from all over the country will participate in this event.

The IIA Natcon is the only national level convention for Architects organized by its own fraternity members’ organization. The Transcend will let us all discuss and take collective steps from this quiescent period to perceive to rebuild and equitable and Inclusive environment to serve the aspirations of all sections of the society.

The Prominent speakers include Rahul Mehrotra, Founder Principal of architecture firm RMA Architects of Mumbai + Boston, and Professor of Urban Design and Planning and Chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Marion Weiss, cofounder of WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism and the Graham Chair Professor of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. Sonam Wangchuk, an Indian engineer, innovator and education reformist and the founding-director of the Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh. Moshe Safdie CC FAIA FRAIC, an Israeli-Canadian architect, urban designer, educator, theorist, and author. Michael Manfredi is cofounder of WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism and is currently a Senior Design Critic at Harvard University.
