Senior citizens galore at Ashiana Housing’s Active Senior Citizen Conclave in Chennai

Chennai, April 19, 2016: Who says, life comes to a standstill when you retire? In fact, we believe, life become much more interesting after that. Yes, it is the truth and yesterday, Chennai: The growing retirement hub of India, witnessed the same.

Sunday morning unfolded with the blazing today for the people of Chennai. The city, known to giving a new lease of life to the retirees from all walks of life, was filled with positivity and new hopes. All this and a lot more witnessed at the Active Senior Citizen Conclave today held at Hyatt Regency, Chennai.

Organised by Delhi-based, Ashiana Housing Ltd, pioneers of active senior living in India, in association with Arihant Foundation, the Conclave saw encouraging participation of over 300 senior citizens including residents of Ashiana Utsav – An active senior living in Lavasa as well as other registered participants from Chennai.

The main motive behind the Conclave was to spread awareness among the people of Chennai about the lifestyle and active living of seniors in their golden years of life. In fact, senior citizens of Chennai got a golden chance to meet and interact with the people who are actually living in the senior living communities across India. In addition, the Conclave also gave an opportunity to the entire Utsav community to come over a single platform and share their experiences and expectations of post retirement life.

On his association with Ashiana Housing, Mr. Bharat Jain, Director, Arihant Foundation, said, “We collaborated with Ashiana for this novel initiative to spread awareness about the concept of active senior living in Chennai and by looking at the response, I can say that we have been successful.”

An eventful day

Several gala activities took place at the Conclave. Particularly what added to the glamour quotient of the Conclave was mesmerising dance performance by senior citizens, all above 60 years, on Bollywood numbers which made people rethink about the idea of senior living and generated a wave of positivity among all the participants. In fact, singing and
dance performances were the main highlight of the Conclave. It was followed by various interactive games and sessions with the customers as well as the oldies.

In the other segment of the Conclave, an interactive session on why and when to choose a senior living, what facilities to look for in such a project and need and importance of concepts like Continued Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in India was organised.

This session was conducted by renowned senior living expert, Mr. Ankur Gupta, Joint Managing Director, Ashiana Housing Ltd with an aim to throw light on senior living projects in the country and healthy lifestyles they offer. He is MSc. In real estate from New York University and an advisory board of Ageing Asia, Retirement Living world and co founder of ASLI, also a regular speaker at Retirement communities all over the world.

Mr. Gupta, said, “Chennai offers huge potential for senior living developments. Apart from its strong economy, industrial growth, infrastructural advancement and substantial demographic base, Chennai also has strong linkages within South Indian hinterlands and offers quality social infrastructure and state-of-the-art healthcare facilities. These factors combine to make it an ideal destination for senior living projects,”

This session also highlighted upon the fact that given to the distinct location, favourable weather, good infrastructure, transport and medical facilities, safe environment and cosmopolitan crowd, Chennai is gradually becoming a favourable location for senior living and this is attracting many responsible real estate companies to the region.

It is for the same reason that after the grand success of Utsav projects at Bhiwadi- NCR (2 projects), Lavasa and Jaipur, Ashiana is launching its first Utsav project in Chennai which will be the 5th senior living project in the country. Soon, Kolkata will join the league too.
